Opening for ZZ Top Jan 17 & 18- 2015

Myself and the band used to joke about opening for ZZ Top , Turns out the joke is on me!! Got a Phone call Tuesday from The Majestic Theater in San Antonio TX  wanting to know if I could do a 20 min solo opening set on Sat Jan 17 & Sun Jan 18 for The ZZ Top show , I said yes, no problem I would love to ! So this Weekend Me and My Guitar will be warming up the Audience for ZZ Top ! All I can say is Wow! I ended up having my drummer Raul G Garcia play Cajon with me , We had a great time and performed very well. Raul really kicked butt on Cajon , He sounded like a full drum set! On the 2nd night , Billy F. Gibbons heard us and liked us enough to invite us back stage after the show . He loved the 2 piece sound and said that we needed to be heard . We passed my guitar back and forth a couple times ( he wanted to show me a few finger picking notes ) I wasn't even nervous , I was having too much fun to be nervous, He invited us to have lunch the next day where we talked guitars , Mexican food , women and life. What a great weekend!

Best Blues Artist 2014

Oct 01 2014   Voted The Best Blues Artist  in The San Antonio Current Music Awards ,I am very pleased that everyone voted , Thank you very much , Blues Fans are the best!!

Sept 03 2014 Freddy King’s 80th  birthday,, Freddy King  would have been 80 years old if he was still living today , The man who as a teenager impressed Howling Wolf as an old soul after sneaking into the club and sitting in with the band lived a lifetime of great blues in his time. I have always loved Freddy King’s music and have been fortunate to have met musicians who knew him. They all speak well of him and all said he could play the hell out of the guitar. Happy Birthday Freddy where ever you are

July and Aug 2014 Various Thursday nights at C Boys Heart & Soul in Austin TX.  The Paul Oscher Thursday residency.   I have been going to my new favorite club in Austin to see Paul Oscher’s show on Thursday nights, made it to several shows. I enjoy the club and Paul does Chicago blues right.  An award-winning blues singer, songwriter, recording artist, and multi-instrumentalist, (harmonica, guitar, piano, melodica, and bass harp), Paul first came to national attention as Muddy Waters’ harmonica player, 1967-1972 following in the footsteps of Little Walter, Junior Wells, James Cotton, and Big Walter Horton. If you want to hear real blues in a cool place check it out!  Check out Paul’s web site before you go,  He’s on tour in Europe the month of Sept, but should be back to his Thursday night show sometime in October .

July 10 2014 The band advances to the semi finals in the Heart of Texas Blues Competition at The Brass House in Austin TX. hosted by the Austin Blues Society.   Judges and the crowd shower praises on us. The band is pumped

The Band

Benny Harp- Harmonica  A San Antonio harmonica legend, soulful playing and singing ,  Benny has his own band of pros and also fronted the Pure Poison Review some years back. He has mastered the Little Walter and Junior Wells styles but still sounds like Benny Harp, A top showman, sure to be entertaining!

Roy Perez - Bass   Roy’s playing is legendary, He continues to play bass for his brother Henry Perez with the Iconic  River City Slim & the Rhythm Kings .The Kings are known for an aggressive playing style as well as being a virtual encyclopedia of blues and blues rock. Roy also played a few years with The Houserockers. Rock solid bass lines, in the pocket but with a tuff attitude.

Raul G Garcia –Drums Raul is a world class master of the drums. He has played and toured with The Commandos and crossed paths in Europe and Austin with Keith Ferguson and The Texas Tailgaters.  Raul is an amazing blues drummer who drives the band to new heights every night.

July 24 2014 The band has a stellar performance at the semi finals at the Heart of Texas Blues Competition  hosted by the Austin Blues Society but does not advance to the finals, The crowd responds warmly and with applause. But the Judges don’t agree. We leave Austin disappointed, but happy we gave it our best, good luck to the
Palacios Brothers in the Memphis finals
